Parental Training
Often, parents are their children’s most effective advocates and case managers. It can be difficult, however, to learn the information and skills needed to fulfill these roles in so many areas of a child’s life, including education, health care, employment, housing, and recreation. The organizations below are resource centers run by parents of children with disabilities for parents of children with disabilities. These organizations offer workshops, conferences, trainings, support groups, information packages, library resources, and staff who can serve as mentors to parents who need guidance and advice from somebody who has experienced the difficult issues they are facing today.
Special Education Parent Resource Centers provide information, training and support for families whose children are receiving or being considered for special education services. Parent Resource Centers are staffed by parents of children with special needs.
