Dear President Obama, Have you ever bowled with Special Olympics, Mr. President-We think it’s time you do… I am the Co-Executive Director of The Arc of Northern Virginia and I have an intellectual disability. Last night President Barack Obama was on the Jay Leno show. This is the first time a sitting president has been on the Tonight Show.  The crowd was excited to see the President come on the stage. The President talked about what it was like to live in “a bubble” because he is surrounded all the time by secret service agents.  The one thing he can do anytime, however, is bowl because the White House has a bowling alley right in it! President Obama was telling Mr. Leno about the fact that he bowled a 129. “That’s very good, Mr. President” Leno said sarcastically. The President said, “It (his score) is like Special Olympics, or something.”  Obviously, President Obama has never bowled with Special Olympics because 129 is not a score that most Special Olympics athletes would brag about! People with intellectual disabilities believe that President Obama and Jay Leno have presented us with an education opportunity. I would like to suggest that President Obama invite Special Olympics bowlers to the White House to help him improve his score. And then Jay Leno can invite the President back with his coaches from Special Olympics so he can brag about his score—which we are sure will only improve.
