Mental Retardation Bureau

The Arlington Mental Retardation Bureau provides appropriate community assistance, support, training and therapeutic services to Arlington citizens who have mental retardation. The focus is to facilitate and maximize opportunities for individual consumers to have control over their lives at home and in the community.

The principle services offered by the Mental Retardation Bureau are:

Client Services Coordination to assist eligible consumers and their families in accessing and ensuring the continuity of appropriate, quality services, based on their needs.

Residential Contract Services to provide a variety of community living options for adults. Program design focuses on the support and assistance required for these individuals to live as independently as possible. Services are provided by a variety of providers.

Vocational/transportation Contract Services to provide assistance, support, training and transportation for adults with mental retardation to maximize their potential with community living skills and employment. An array of vocational services are provided, including sheltered workshop, supported employment, group and individual day support, and intensive day support. Services are provided by a variety of vocational service providers.

Individual/Family Support Subsidies program provides fiscal reimbursement to individuals with MR and /or their families for alternative supports, assistance and services.
