Emergency Slots

In order to be considered for an emergency enrollment, individuals must meet at least one of the following emergency criteria:

  • The primary caregiver has a serious illness, has been hospitalized, or has died.
  • The individual has been determined by the Department of Social Services to have been abused or neglected and is in need of immediate waiver services.
  • The individual has behaviors which present risk to personal or public safety.
  • The individual presents extreme physical, emotional, or financial burden at home and the family or caregiver is unable to continue to provide care.

When will I know when slots are available?

DMAS will notify caregivers through written notification when potential emergency slots become available. If slots are available, letters are typically sent out in June or July. If you feel you meet the above criteria for an emergency slot, please review the application and notify your case manager.
