The Arc pursues its federal legislative goals through the Governemental Affairs Office of The Arc of the United States. The Arc staff works with the U.S. Congress and the administration to enact laws that improve the lives of children and adults with mental retardation and their families. The Arc also wants to keep all chapters and members of the association well-informed about national policies that impact the lives of people with mental retardation. With this information, The Arc exercises its 3. grassroots strength to better the lives of all people with mental retardation and their families.
During the spring and summer when Congress is in session, local affiliates of the The Arc, including The Arc of Northern Virginia, provide information to its members so that they can effectively advocate at a federal level.
