WHAT is People First and the A Life Like Yours Toastmasters?

People First is an advocacy organization designed for and run by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It was started in the 1990’s and continues today in 2011.

A Life Like Yours Toastmasters provides an opportunity for all people to learn how to speak up and listen to others.

WHEN:

The Second Thursday of every month it from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., feel free to drop in any Thursday, no invitation is needed!

WHY Join?

It’s a great opportunity to learn how to speak up for yourself and others. It’s a great opportunity to meet other people, be social and strive to meet our goals. It’s a great opportunity to give back to the community also there will be a Toastmasters.

Some of the things we have accomplished this year include:

-  Passing legislation to change the words Mental Retardation to people with Intellectual Disabilities in Virginia.
-  Speaking at public hearings locally and in Richmond.
-  Making sandwiches for homeless shelters.
-  Helping to develop better dental services for people with ID.
-  Having Fun!
